Artist's Description

An example of my tendency to use unusual color contrasts. I played off of the "At Ease" text on the side of an armored vehicle....its hard to actually be at ease with armored vehicles, and I thought that the color contrast helped this thought along. I especially like to take an image that is originally associated with death and destruction and rework it to bring out a more colorful and non-deadly aspect.

Ben Freeman

I have been drawing things since I was a kid, and got into photography way before there were digital cameras, but didn't get serious about my art until around 1978. I studied on my own for a bit, then got a bachelor's degree in art from Sacramento State University in Sacramento CA in 1982. I have worked in many different mediums along the way mainly because one would not satisfy all of my artistic ideas. I have worked in glass engraving, jade carving, sculpture, photography, textiles, cloisonne, ceramics, and watercolors. I also have worked as an artist in the sign industry for about 15 years, and you can occasionally see that aspect in a few of my images which have a more commercial feel. I am now working with digital photography...
