Artist's Description

I am part Cheyenne and this is one of my images from my series on the Native American. I am currently concentrating on the Cheyenne tribe, but I plan to include other tribes as well as I continue. I am working from images provided to me by my Cheyenne relatives. I try to portray the relationship of the people to the land through the colors involved....the colors of the Earth, Sky, Water, and colors representing the spirit of the person as well.

Ben Freeman

I have been drawing things since I was a kid, and got into photography way before there were digital cameras, but didn't get serious about my art until around 1978. I studied on my own for a bit, then got a bachelor's degree in art from Sacramento State University in Sacramento CA in 1982. I have worked in many different mediums along the way mainly because one would not satisfy all of my artistic ideas. I have worked in glass engraving, jade carving, sculpture, photography, textiles, cloisonne, ceramics, and watercolors. I also have worked as an artist in the sign industry for about 15 years, and you can occasionally see that aspect in a few of my images which have a more commercial feel. I am now working with digital photography...
